What is Fluconazole?
Fluconazole is an antifungal used to treat thrush. Thrush is a fungal infection caused by the fungus Candida that can affect the genitals of both men and women. Symptoms of thrush include irritation and itchiness in the affected area, as well as white discharge.
How does Fluconazole work?
Fluconazole works by blocking the production of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungi cell membrane. This causes the fungal cell to break down, thereby preventing Candida from growing and spreading.

How long does it take for Fluconazole to work?
Fluconazole 150mg Capsule should cause the symptoms of thrush to disappear within two days of treatment. If you see no improvement after seven days of taking Fluconazole, you should inform your doctor.
How do I take Fluconazole?
For adults, the recommended dose is one single capsule of 150mg fluconazole, to be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
Taking more than one dose of fluconazole is not recommended and will not make the infection go away quicker. It is important to follow the patient information leaflet guidance and any advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Can I use antifungal cream with Fluconazole?
Yes, you may use antifungal creams containing clotrimazole (Canesten) to help relieve symptoms of soreness and itchiness if necessary.

Fluconazole is generally well tolerated. Any side effects are usually mild.
Sometimes fluconazole can cause headache, dizziness, nausea (feeling sick), vomiting and tiredness.
Some people may also be allergic to the medication and come up with a skin rash, itching, swelling around the lips and face, difficulty breathing or swallowing, high body temperature and enlarged lymph nodes. If this happens, stop the medication and seek medical attention immediately.
