What is in Canesten 1% External Cream?

Canesten 1% External Cream contains the active ingredient clotrimazole. Clotrimazole is an antifungal used to treat thrush. Thrush is a fungal infection caused by the fungus Candida that can affect the genitals of both men and women. Symptoms of thrush include irritation and itchiness in the affected area, as well as white discharge.

How does Clotrimazole work?

Clotrimazole works by blocking the production of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungi cell membrane. This causes the fungal cell to break down, thereby preventing Candida from growing and spreading.
