How effective is EllaOne?
The sooner EllaOne is taken after unprotected sex, the better. It is considered to be 98% effective at preventing unplanned pregnancy.
Taking EllaOne 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex may not leave you as well-protected as you hoped. A 2017 review estimated that 1% to 2% of women who take EllaOne after unprotected sex will become pregnant.
How does EllaOne work?
EllaOne contains the active ingredient ulipristal at a dose of 30mg. EllaOne works by delaying or preventing the release of the egg from the ovary so that fertilisation does not take place.
